A discreet beauty
It is when they are grouped, as in St-Renan on the Place du Vieux Marché, that the remarkable old houses catch the eye of the passer-by.
There are others, many more numerous besides, that one must go especially to find where they are hiding in order to be able to observe them, to notice their architecture and to admire them. Of course, these houses are inhabited. They are not visited except in very exceptional circumstances, and it is not easy to get information on when they were built and how they were used. And the environment, which has changed a lot, is sometimes misleading.
However, fortunately local historians, passionate about heritage, practice research in all kinds of archives and sometimes they end up finally giving a life to these silent witnesses of our past.
From then on, their discreet beauty also takes on a soul.
